Yolo County Jail In-Custody Death Reporting
To maintain transparency with the community and in accordance with AB2761, our agency is providing information regarding an in-custody death that occurred at the Yolo County Jail.
In Custody Death February 2, 2024
On February 1, 2024, a 57-year-old, white male adult was transported to the emergency room for a health-related illness. After several hours at the hospital the male passed away on February 2, 2024. The decedent was booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of, failure to register as a sex offender, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition and possession of tear gas by a prohibited person. The decedent was awaiting court ordered competency hearing. The official cause of death is still being investigated by the coroner’s office. The male’s identity is still being withheld until his next of kin has been notified. The Coroners Office found the cause of death was Covid-19 Pneumonia, the manner was Natural.
In Custody Death October 13, 2024
On October 13, 2024, correctional officers and on-site medical staff at the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office Monroe Detention Facility responded to an unresponsive white female inmate found in their locked, single-occupant cell. Despite the treatment administered, the inmate was declared deceased. The cause of death is undetermined and is currently under investigation by the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office and Yolo County District Attorney’s Office Investigators. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office Coroner will determine the official cause of death. The inmate was booked on a warrant and a probation violation. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. The Coroners Office found the cause of death was Hemorrhagic Acute Pancreatitis, the manner was Natural.
In Custody Death October 13. 2023
This morning, a 58-year-old man from the Winters area died in the Yolo County Jail. At approximately 6am, the decedent was found unresponsive in his cell. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated while emergency medical personnel responded to the scene. Despite these efforts, the inmate was pronounced deceased. The decedent was booked into jail yesterday at approximately 1230pm for child molestation charges by Yolo County Sheriff’s Office detectives. He was housed alone in a single cell at the time of the incident and there were no signs of foul play. Per standard protocol and policy, an investigation into the death has been initiated and is ongoing. Deputy Coroners will determine the official cause of death. The identity of the man is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification. The Coroners Office found the cause of death was hanging, the manner was Suicide.
