Search & Rescue

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office operates three Search and Rescue (SAR) Teams, comprised of both sworn deputies and trained volunteers. For sworn members, serving on a SAR Team is a collateral duty, performed in addition to their regular law enforcement responsibilities.

Our SAR Teams are authorized under the California Government Code and by the Yolo County Board of Supervisors. They are equipped and trained to handle a wide range of missions, including maritime, off-highway, wilderness, and urban search and rescue operations. These teams also serve as assets to the California Office of Emergency Services and may be deployed statewide through the state’s mutual aid system.

To enhance capacity, the Sheriff’s Office maintains a volunteer SAR Team composed of dedicated community members. Volunteers receive extensive land-based search and rescue training and are on-call 24/7. They respond to both urban and wilderness search operations within Yolo County.
