Books & Magazines

All books and periodicals must be prepaid and delivered through the U.S. Postal Service. Bookstore orders are allowed, but only if they are sent directly from a retail book store and approved by the Detention Commander.

There is no set limit to how much reading material someone may receive, as long as the total amount of paper in their cell does not exceed 3 pounds. However, shipments are limited to 2 books at a time.

What Cannot Be Sent

The following items will be rejected and returned to the sender:

• More than 2 books in a single shipment
• Hardcover or leather-bound books (paperback only)
• Used books, magazines, or newspapers (items must be new)
• Publications that are sexually explicit or contain nudity
• Material that promotes or encourages violence, hate, or gang activity
